SEATTLE — America’s Community Bankers, the national trade association for community banks of all charter types and sizes, today selected George W. Bush in a presidential straw poll conducted in conjunction with its Annual Convention here. Of the 1,104 voters, 921 chose Governor Bush while 174 selected Vice President Al Gore.

Coincidentally, at the time of the announced results, GOP hopeful Bush was campaigning in the local Seattle Area.

COMPAC, the national political action committee of ACB, sponsored the poll to remind its members of the upcoming election and encourage bankers, their families and employees to get out and vote for the candidates of their choice in this critical election.

Earlier today, more than 1,800 attendees at ACB’s Annual Convention general session heard well-known Washington, D.C., political prognosticator, Charles W. Cook, underscore the importance of the upcoming election, calling it one of the most important and closest races since World War II. Cook gave Governor Bush a slight edge, but emphasized that the election was really too close to call.

America’s Community Bankers is the national trade association committed to shaping the future of banking by being the innovative industry leader strengthening the competitive position of community banks. To learn more about ACB, visit www.AmericasCommunityBankers.com.
