ACB APPLAUDS PASSAGE OF BUSINESS CHECKING BILL
Statement by Diane Casey Landry, president and CEO, America’s Community Bankers, on House passage today of legislation to give banks the option of paying interest on business checking accounts:
The House demonstrated again today that repeal of the outdated Depression-era law prohibiting banks from paying interest on business checking accounts is long overdue. By giving banks the option of offering interest-bearing business checking accounts, the bill will benefit community banks, small businesses and the economy as a whole.
America’s Community Bankers has been the champion of removing the ban on paying interest on business checking accounts for nearly a decade. We are already working with the Senate Banking Committee to move a bill to final enactment and President Bush’s signature.
America’s Community Bankers is the national trade association committed to shaping the future of
banking by being the innovative industry leader strengthening the competitive position of
community banks. To learn more about ACB, visit
