WASHINGTON, D.C. — America’s Community Bankers announced three appointments today to its Government Relations Department in the areas of lobbying before Congress, economics and research and accounting policy.

•   B. Dan Berger has joined the staff as vice president for government relations. Prior to his appointment, he was chief of staff for Rep. Katherine Harris (R-Fla.), overseeing the staff hiring and office set-up in her district and in Washington, D.C., offices. Previously, he was a political and government affairs consultant to Harris and others in Florida.

As a self-described political junkie, Berger has advised or managed almost two dozen political campaigns and initiatives. He has served in senior management positions at various associations and companies in government relations and lobbying capacities.

Berger is a graduate in economics from Florida State University and earned his master’s degree in public administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

•   Dusan Jovanovic has joined the staff as accounting and financial management specialist. Prior to his appointment, Jovanovic was an economist for Joel Popkin and Co., an economic consulting firm in Washington, D.C. Previously, he was a research assistant in the Economics Department of Youngstown State University.

Jovanovic is a graduate in business administration/international business from Franklin University and earned his master’s degree in economics from Youngstown State.

•   John A. Burton has joined the staff as economist and research analyst. Prior to his appointment, Burton was research associate for the Council on African Affairs in Washington, D.C. Burton graduated in history and literature from Harvard College. He was a research fellow at the Harvard Office of Arts, an officer of the Undergraduate Council, an after-school tutor in an America Reads program and an ESL instructor.

“The addition of these outstanding individuals will boost ACB’s ability to provide members of Congress and other government officials with a solid underpinning of research and analysis in support our priority issues,” said ACB President and CEO Diane Casey-Landry. “We will also be increasing operational support to our community bank members.”
