WASHINGTON, D.C. — America’s Community Bankers’ Housing Partners Foundation has been named to the 2006 Associations Advance America Honor Roll, a national awards competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). ACB received the award for its Bankers-Helping-Bankers program.

The Bankers-Helping-Bankers program was created to assist banks and their employees affected by last year’s hurricanes. In the aftermath of the Hurricane Katrina, ACB members wanted to help fellow bankers whose homes and possessions were devastated. ACB’s Housing Partners Foundation collected donations and distributed the funds to bank employees in the Gulf Coast area. To date, the program has donated more than $120,000 to some 300 bank employees in the Gulf Region, many of whom lost everything including their homes and belongings.

The program also connected bankers in the Gulf Coast area with bankers across the country who shared expertise on disaster recovery, data recovery, working with insurance companies and helping families and employees in distress put their lives back together.

“ACB is driven by innovation, leadership, passion and commitment,” said Diane Casey-Landry, president and CEO of America’s Community Bankers. “ACB and our members demonstrated all four of these qualities in reaching out to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.”

Now in its 16th year, the prestigious Associations Advance America Awards program recognizes associations that propel America forward – with innovative projects in education, skills training, standards setting, business and social innovation, knowledge creation, citizenship and community service. “Your program is a perfect example of how associations play a vital role in helping the nation adapt to complex and changing times,” said John H. Graham IV, president and CEO of ASAE. “Contributions such as yours are vital and add real value to society.”
