America’s Community Bankers® Executive MBA Program
In partnership with
University of Maryland University College
Shaping the Leaders of Today’s Community Banks
One of the ways that successful community banks are meeting today’s
challenges is to assure that they attract, retain, and develop
knowledgeable managers and future leaders. Executive education is an
essential strategic tool in the retention and professional growth of
these prospective leaders.
In 1960, America’s Community Bankers created the National School of
Banking, a graduate level program designed to provide an in-depth study
of the community bank industry. In 1999, ACB launched the first and only
Executive MBA helping community banks develop and retain key staff.
ACB has joined with a leading graduate business school to offer a
unique, accredited MBA program. This course of studies combines the
industry-specific content of ACB’s National School of banking with the
global strategic, operational economic and leadership curriculum of the
University of Maryland University College (UMUC).
ACB’s Executive MBA program is a time-efficient, cost-effective way for
a banker to earn an MBA that rewards the previous banking school
experience while accommodating full-time employment. National School
graduates receive advanced standing of 12 credits from UMUC.
ACB EXECUTIVE MBA PROGRAM
This unique Executive MBA program is a two-part curriculum.
Part A – ACB National School of Banking
The first half of the program involves completion of the full banking
school curriculum from ACB’s National School of Banking. This program
consists of three summer sessions, nine-ten days in length, focusing on
bank management.
Each resident session uses case studies, group projects and discussions,
and computer simulations to expand class lectures and readings. Research
assignments and distance learning modules continue the learning between
summer sessions.

Part B –
University of Maryland University College’s Executive MBA in Bank Management
The second half of the ACB’s Executive MBA program is specially designed
to complement the banking school experience. Qualified National School
graduates are given advanced standing at UMUC.
UMUC’s Executive MBA combines the accessibility and convenience of
online education with the opportunity to build a cohesive support team
through two face-to-face workshops. Computer modeling, simulations, team
projects, classroom lecture and threaded discussions are used
extensively during the seminars in the program, and UMUC’s National
Leadership Institute, an affiliate of the Center for Creative
Leadership, provides specialized education in team and leadership
development. An initial residency introduces members of the cohort and
faculty, building the support network that enhances the learning
experience and increases the odds of successful completion of the
program. The program concludes with a final 5-day session that includes
an interactive visit to NYC and DC financial services firms. Each of the
5 survey seminars extends over a three-month period and each integrates
several subjects to address the major competitive challenges of the 21st
century.
The ACB Executive MBA program with UMUC includes the following Courses
in Part B of the program:
- The Role of Managers and Organizations in Society
- The Dynamics of Individuals and Groups at Work
- The Marketing of New Ideas
- Technology and Operations Management
- Organizations and the Global Environment
