Non-interest income enhancement remains a critical challenge for community bankers. Margins remain under pressure, even though the industry has done a good job in recent years on the cost side of the equation. Indeed, the recent Brintech survey of 823 community bank CEO’s placed “Developing an Overdraft Product” as the number one priority in all asset categories. Several years prior, Overdraft Programs did not make the top 10 in the same asset ranges.
One of the most popular topics over the recent year wherever bankers gather has been the potential impact of “free” checking and overdraft income on the bottom line. Many bankers have accomplished dramatic and sustainable improvements in income while also creating strong customer satisfaction with well-designed and thoughtfully implemented programs in this area.
The Free Checking and Overdraft Privilege program from Strunk and Associates is the industry’s most widely implemented fee income enhancement program of its type. Over 1,200 financial institutions around the country have taken advantage of Strunk’s industry-leading experience and turn-key implementation to create an exciting and valuable new service that creates strong customer satisfaction and, on average, at least a doubling of fee income on an ongoing basis.
The Overdraft Privilege program is popular with bank customers because it actually saves them time, embarrassment, and money. It is popular with bankers because, in addition to being a performance and customer satisfaction lever, the cost to the bank for the program is completely contingent on the fee income growth of the bank.
