ACB ON EXPANSION OF LOW-INCOME HOUSING TAX CREDIT
Statement by Diane M. Casey, president, America’s Community Bankers, on passage by Congress of an expansion of the low-income housing tax credit:
America’s Community Bankers commends Congress for including an expansion of the low-income housing tax credit in the omnibus funding and tax reform bill, certain to be signed by the president soon. Increasing the tax credit to account for inflation has been an ACB priority for many years.
Home mortgage and construction lending is a critical part of the mission of community banks and the low-income housing tax credit is a tested and proven means used by many of ACB’s members to increase the stock of affordable rental housing in the communities they serve.
ACB member institutions are participating — as lenders and investors — in many low-income housing projects that are viable only because of the LIHTC. Community bankers believe that increasing the supply of LIHTCs will make a real difference in remedying shortages of affordable rental housing in their communities.
America’s Community Bankers is the national trade association committed to shaping the future of
banking by being the innovative industry leader strengthening the competitive position of
community banks. To learn more about ACB, visit
