ACB APPLAUDS WITHDRAWAL OF HOLDING COMPANY PROPOSAL
Statement by
Diane M. Casey, president and CEO, America’s Community Bankers, on OTS’s
withdrawal today of its proposed holding company rule:
“ACB believes that the proposal was in
no way mandated by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act and would have been a significant
departure from the OTS’s longstanding policy of supervising holding companies
only to the extent necessary to ensure the safety and soundness of the
subsidiary savings association.
“We support OTS’s decision to address
issues involving the activities of non-grandfathered thrift holding companies
through policy guidance and on a case-by-case basis.”
America’s Community Bankers represents the nation’s community banks of
all charter types and sizes. ACB members, whose aggregate assets are more
than $1 trillion, pursue progressive, entrepreneurial and service-oriented
strategies in providing financial services to benefit their customers and
communities.
