AMERICA’S COMMUNITY BANKERS
NOMINATES 14 DIRECTORS FOR 2003

WASHINGTON, D.C. — America’s Community Bankers announces the nominations of 14 community bankers to the national trade group’s 47-member board of directors, including a representative of its new MBank Council. Elections and installation will take place at ACB’s annual convention, Nov. 3-6, in San Francisco.

Joseph M. Guerra, president and CEO, UniBank, Miami, is the MBank Council’s nominee to ACB’s board of directors for a one-year term expiring in 2003. Guerra is the incoming chairman of the council.

ACB formed the MBank Council a year ago to address the special issues and challenges facing minority and multi-cultural community banks and the diverse needs of their customers. The council is open to African-American, Hispanic-American, Asian-American and other multi-cultural financial institution members of ACB, and any ACB member is eligible to join.

ACB nominated the following community bankers to serve on its board of directors for three-year terms expiring in 2005:
  • Kenneth J. Abt, president, CEO and vice chairman, First Federal Savings of Middletown, N.Y.
  • Larry J. Brandt, president and CEO, First Federal Bank of Arkansas, Harrison, Ark. .
  • William A. Donius, president and CEO, Pulaski Bank, St. Louis. .
  • William G. Gothorpe, president and CEO, Dedham (Mass.) Institution for Savings. .
  • John M. Hamilton, president and CEO, Advance Bank, Baltimore. .
  • George S. Haynes, president and CEO, Brattleboro (Vt.) Savings and Loan Assn. .
  • Stanley D. Jenks, president and CEO, Security Savings Bank, Monmouth, Ill. .
  • John D. Koch, executive vice president, Charter One Bank, Cleveland. .
  • John Edward Norris III, chairman, president and CEO, Plantation Federal Bank, Pawleys Island, S.C. .
  • Paul M. Pantozzi, chairman, president and CEO, The Provident Bank, Jersey City, N.J. .
  • Joel W. Stevens, president and CEO, Kennebunk (Me.) Savings Bank. .
  • Clarence Zugelter, president and CEO, First Federal Bank, Kansas City, Mo. .
The board nominee representing a state or regional banking trade group for a one-year term expiring in 2003 is Mariel O. Donath, president and CEO, Community Bankers Association of New York State.
