AMERICA’S COMMUNITY BANKERS PARTICIPATES
IN HABITAT FOR HUMANITY’S ‘CONGRESS BUILDING AMERICA’
WASHINGTON, D.C. — America's Community Bankers, the national trade association for community banks, helped frame two Habitat for Humanity houses today as part of the launch of the “Congress Building America” program. ACB is a major national underwriter of the effort.
Representing community bankers at the build near the U.S. Capitol was Diane Casey-Landry, ACB’s president and CEO. Also participating were about 30 members of Congress, Habitat officials, Department of Housing and Urban Development Acting Secretary Alphonso Jackson, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) and Minority Leader Thomas Daschle.
“We are a proud partner with Habitat for Humanity,” said Casey-Landry. “As part of our participation in the Congress Building America program, we recently established a formal partnership with Habitat to work together at the national, state and local levels to build additional affordable housing with low-income families. As part of the partnership, ACB is encouraging its member banks — with great success — to partner with local Habitat affiliates in such resource development activities as gift-in-kind donations, sponsorship of homes and/or volunteer labor,” she said.
ACB has set a goal of member institutions collectively contributing an additional $500,000 to local Habitat affiliates annually, and to building a minimum of 10 new homes. So far, ACB members have surpassed that commitment, pledging to build more than a dozen homes.
ACB is the first trade association recipient of corporate social responsibility awards from PR News, edging out Fortune 500 companies and their PR agencies. The Most Outstanding Nonprofit Partner award honored ACB’s unique national partnership with Habitat for Humanity in stepping up efforts to build affordable homes for low-income families.
America’s Community Bankers is the national trade association committed to shaping the future of
banking by being the innovative industry leader strengthening the competitive position of
community banks. To learn more about ACB, visit
