WASHINGTON, D.C. — America’s Community Bankers announced today that Priyalatha Dayananda has been promoted to a director of government relations. Dayananda joined ACB as a legislative specialist in 2001.

“Priya has done an extraordinary job in representing community banking’s legislative interests in the housing and mortgage lending areas,” said Diane Casey-Landry, ACB president and CEO. “She will continue her work on these and other important legislative issues, including taking a lead on financial literacy.”

Dayananda also staffs ACB’s MBank Council, which addresses the special issues and challenges that face minority and multi-cultural community banks.

Before joining ACB, Dayananda served as legislative director for Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) and as his legislative liaison as a member of the House Financial Services Committee.

Her prior service also includes serving as senior legislative assistant for Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) and as a legislative assistant to Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas).

Previously, Dayananda was director of government relations for the National Association of Minority Contractors. She served as an admissions counselor specializing in minority student recruitment and retention for Pennsylvania State University, where she had received a masters degree.
