ACB NAMES ROBERT SCHMERMUND EVP FOR CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS AND MEMBER RELATIONS

WASHINGTON, D.C. — America’s Community Bankers announced today the promotion of Robert P. Schmermund to executive vice president for corporate communications and member relations. Schmermund previously served as senior vice president for corporate communications.

In making the announcement, ACB President and CEO Diane Casey-Landry said, “ACB is going to the next level in reaching out to all of its constituencies with a clear and compelling message: ACB makes community banks better. Bob’s leadership and experience will allow ACB to better coordinate its membership, marketing and communications efforts to enhance the ACB brand and ensure that community bankers are aware of the value that ACB membership brings to them.”

Schmermund has been at ACB for 12 years and has managed a number of areas at different times, including communications, public relations, customer service, membership and marketing.

Schmermund serves as ACB spokesperson on industry issues and has served as emcee for ACB’s annual convention program for the last three years. Additionally Schmermund serves as president of ACB Housing Partners Foundation, which has sponsored and built a Habitat for Humanity house in the host cities for ACB’s convention, most recently in Washington, D.C.

Prior to ACB, Schmermund was director of public affairs at the Office of Thrift Supervision. He also served as deputy assistant secretary for public affairs at the Department of Health and Human Services during the first Bush Administration. He is a 1978 graduate of the United States Naval Academy.
