WASHINGTON, D.C. – America’s Community Bankers today applauded the White House nomination of Don Powell to become the next chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. ACB President and CEO Diane M. Casey stated, “We think it is significant that we will have a talented and experienced banker at the helm of the FDIC. Don Powell is extremely well-suited to take on the challenges facing the FDIC and the deposit insurance system.”

Casey noted, “One of the most important issues facing the industry and the FDIC is deposit insurance reform. We look forward to working with Mr. Powell in addressing the dangers of a few free riders who have moved tens of billion of dollars in uninsured investments into insured deposits – negatively affecting the reserve ratio. Don Powell is an experienced community banker with a keen understanding of banking issues. He is an ideal choice for the FDIC chairmanship. We look forward to working with him.”
